MishMash: Where Art & Food Meet

MishMash, located at Plot 28 Acacia Avenue is a café, lounge and art gallery in the heart of Kololo. While MishMash shares the scene with a handful of other like venues it has thrived on the eye catching creative organisation and combination of restaurant and art gallery.

Entering into MishMash, you’ll see a number of fine art pieces exhibited on walls of the lounge including art work from renown Ugandan artists like Collin Sekajugo,  and beautiful graffiti art by Xenson. MishMash has three rooms in which they normally hold exhibitions of different Ugandan artists at any given time.

MishMash also promotes Ugandan art and crafts and has a well-stocked craft shop that sells all kinds of craft works from African dresses, to sandals and bags, to hats and t-shirts. The craft shop is open Tuesday to Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.

The large, spacious gardens have comfortable, evenly spaced garden chairs and tables making it a great place for a quick lunch or to wind down the day especially if you can take in some of the amazing art on display, have a bite to eat with a glass of wine.

There are different theme nights throughout the week. Tuesdays are the Rock and Blues, Wednesdays have Moonlight Cinema with movies showing at 7.30pm, Thursdays are Open Mic Night and on Saturdays they have a farmer’s market selling fresh fruit, cheese,  and crafts. Later on Saturday’s it’s the Electro Mash night with DJ Phoenix Olivia, Zonneklaar and international guest DJs from time to time. Each Sunday is Sunday in the Park with live traditional performances and a craft market for the whole family.

The menu is continental with soups, salads, mains, and desserts. Standards include fish and chips, onion soup, bacon soup, butternut, spicy beef meatballs, marinated olives, smoked Nile perch and a wide assortment of cakes and fruits salads.

The food and beverage prices are on the high end with freshly squeezed juices like mango, watermelon, orange, mixed fruit cocktails costing 8,000 UGX, smoothies are 8,000 UGX, milkshakes 8,000 UGX, a soda costing 2,500 UGX and diet coke is 3,500 UGX. Hot drinks range from 2,000 UGX for a �?babycino’ to 4,500 UGX for a �?Big Gorilla Personal French Press’.

Beers range from 5,000 UGX to 10,000 UGX for imported brands and liquors range from 6,000 UGX to 10,000UGX. Whereas a glass of red or white wine goes for 8,000 UGX. They also have a wide variety of cocktails and shooters on offer at the bar.

You shouldn’t be put off by high prices as they do have special offers on each day of the week from Tuesday to Sunday with the most appetising one being the �?Coffee and Cake’ with a choice of cheese, carrot, date and almond cake and the Big Gorilla filter coffee for only 9,000 UGX.

MishMash is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11am till late and closed every Monday.
